Hearing Loss Prevention and Music

May 23, 2019 Marshall Chasin

Of the many causes of permanent hearing loss, the one that is most preventable is noise and music exposure.  Although music and noise appear to be quite different; one being a good thing and the other, less good, both have a similar (but not identical) effect on our hearing.

Although recent research has unveiled several parameters that can affect one’s hearing status, there are two main factors that contribute to noise or music related hearing loss- the sound level (also known as the intensity) and how long on

An Audio Loop

Saturday, April 04, 2015

An audio (induction) loop is a wire loop (or thin loop pad) attached to an amplifier. It creates a magnetic field that broadcasts sound, in pure, undistorted form, directly to people who are within the loop and have a hearing aid containing a telecoil. Aliant Pioneer Volunteers donate their time to install “audio loops” to work with existing public address “PA” systems. These loops improve the sound quality for people who wear hearing aids. Aliant Pioneer Volunteer loops can be found in churches, meeting rooms, theatres and classrooms across Atlantic Canada. Hearing Aids are designed to work best in small spaces and at small distances. The FM audio loop can compensate for the noise and distance factors making it much easier for hearing aid users to hear in difficult environments.

WiSE (Widex Scientific Excellence)

Saturday, April 04, 2015

I was away in April at the first WiSE (Widex Scientific Excellence) seminar held at ORCA in Chicago, Illinois. This seminar was attended by a select group of Audiologists from Canada, US, England, Australia, Belgium, and the Netherlands and was led by clinical researcher Dr. Francis Kuk. We had the opportunity to learn and ask questions about the research that takes place to develop the advanced features in Widex hearing aids. We use these features everyday to help you, our clients, with your communication needs.

I was able to meet with Audiologists from all over the world and learn about the similarities and differences they deal with in the practice. This was a great opportunity and I hope the WiSE seminars continue over the years to provide me with up to date information that I can u

We’re taking the plunge into the world of blogging – and we’re really excited about it..

We’re hoping to use our blog as an opportunity to interact with our clients, their families and friends and the public in general. We, the Marco Team, have a real passion for what we do. We know we change peoples lives every day. We love the new technologies and what they can do for anyone with a hearing loss, whether it’s very mild – or if it’s severe. And we know our counseling and service can make all the difference. That’s why our slogan is: ‘One visit will convince you!’

Over the next few months we’ll be selecting topics that have arisen out of questions from clients. We’ll also use the blog to answer your questions and to keep you up to date on new and exciting devel
