Advancements in Hearing Device Technology
Transition From Analogue to Digital Devices: Recent years have seen the technological leap from analogue to digital hearing devices. This has allowed for advanced types of noise reduction, digital feedback cancellation and other features that weren't possible with analogue devices. This translates into better hearing in difficult listening situations, such as restaurants.
Finding the Perfect Fit
Everyone is different, and that's why we'll work closely with you to choose the hearing device that's right for you. After a comprehensive hearing assessment, all your potential options and benefits will be discussed. After making your selection, you'll be properly fitted with your device and shown how to adapt to it, both physically and emotionally. Shortly after, we'll invite you back for a follow-up to assist you with the process of adapting to 'good sound.' We want you to feel as comfortable as possible with your new hearing devices.
Hearing Device Styles include:
Open-Ear/Open-Fit Technology:
These hearing devices typically consist of small housing that sits behind the ear, with a very fine, clear tube running over the top of the ear, into the ear. This results in an open design without a "plugging" of the ear. Although similar to behind-the-ear (BTE) devices, these are smaller and more discreet than traditional BTEs.
Receiver-In-Canal/Receiver-In-The-Ear (RIC/RITE) Technology:
With these devices, the speaker/receiver is placed inside the user's ear canal, therefore reducing the size of the housing behind the ear. RICs/RITEs are now considered the most discreet and aesthetically pleasing of all hearing devices.
Completely-In-Canal (CIC) Technology:
These devices are designed to fit entirely within the ear canal, and are custom-made to fit the ear canal.
In-The-Ear (ITE) Technology:
ITE is a custom device which fits in the outer ear bowl.
Behind-The-Ear (BTE) Technology:
As the name implies, these hearing devices are worn behind the ear and require a custom ear mould.
